Malaysia National Day Merdeka Cake - Eat Cake Today

Merdeka! Merdeka! Merdeka! Merdeka is fast approaching and before you know it, bam! It’s already time for that long-awaited celebration~ Merdeka symbolizes unity. Merdeka symbolizes togetherness. Merdeka symbolizes our freedom. But most importantly, Merdeka symbolizes the love we have for each other and this country. And what better way to celebrate our country’s Independence Day than to talk about what brings us together -- food!

It doesn’t matter if you’re Orang Utara, all the way from Perlis or even from Johor Bahru we can all agree that we have our own local tastes that we can be proud of! Can you guess what will happen when we unite this myriad of flavours? An identity of a country.

The TRUE Malaysian experience~

We from Eat Cake Today acknowledge the need for an All-Malaysian-Themed party. And we’ve baked cakes that suit the true Malaysian’s palate. Speaking of Malaysian-Themed cakes, we’ve got a list of 6 cakes to liven the Merdeka party with your friends and family~

Nasi Lemak Cake - Eat Cake Today
  • Nasi Lemak Cake 8"
  • Everybody stand up for the unofficial national dish, nasi lemak! But it’s not your usual nasi lemak -- it’s a Nasi Lemak Cake! It’s the perfect savoury dessert-meal for all things Malaysian~ Not only is nasi lemak regarded as THE must-have breakfast, but it’s also so loved by fellow Malaysians it’s like a holy relic they’re prepared to defend at any time.

Set this gorgeous centrepiece on your table and watch as your guests scramble for the body of aromatic basmati rice, topped with sambal and sambal prawns. With an omelette surprise in between!

Musang King Durian Cake - Eat Cake Today
  • King Cat of the Mountain Musang King Durian Cake 7"
  • Love it or hate it, you have to admit that the Durian is THE fruit monarch. And none screams perfection louder than the Mao Shan Wang durian! The royal pungent-ness may drive some people off. But they have no idea of the super-creamy prize within.

Hefty yet light in texture -- with a side of creamy, soft touch~ Everything is made from the highly reputable Mao Shan Wang durian. From the springy and soft sponge cake body to the durian-blessed cream cheese topping. All brought together by the lightest, softest sponge crown you’ll ever set your tastebuds on.

Cendol cake - Eat Cake Today
  • Cendol Cake 8"
  • When it comes to a hot day (or, let’s be honest, another day in Malaysia), Malaysians just love the chilly touch of cendol to vibe to. Every spoonful of this cool, icy dessert graces our parched throats with a refreshing spell. Isn’t that cool?

But what if it were to be caked up? You’ll get a cool-looking dessert -- even without the icy-cool touch~ Taste for yourself a local favourite, generously decked in layers of pandan, sago gula Melaka, and coconut milk mousse sandwiched between yummy portions of agar-agar~

Hitam Manis Cupcakes - Eat Cake Today
  • 10 pieces of Hitam Manis Cupcakes
  • When it comes to Pulut Hitam, what comes to mind is its gooey, nutty-sweetness that beckons our taste buds for more. But did you ever think about the possibility of it being the main star of a cupcake?

A set of ten suave cupcakes, everything on it really brings out the lovely sensation of Pulut Hitam. From the moist and soft bamboo charcoal sponge cake to the Gula Melaka cream cheese frosting framing the main attraction~

Pandan Gula Melaka Cake - Eat Cake Today
  • Pandan Gula Melaka Cake
  • Pandan is the Malaysian version of vanilla! It is used in countless dishes to bring the best out of the flavours from the ingredients as well as offering an aromatic, grassy sweetness of its own!

If it can do all that to your favourite meal, just imagine what a whole cake dedicated to showcasing the MVP of Malaysian ingredients in a not-so-traditional way! Just imagine cutting into a slice of moist Pandan flavoured butter cake topped with aromatic Gula Melaka sauce and a sprinkle of coconut zests. All kinds of sweetness. All in one cake!

Gula Melaka Banana Cake - Eat Cake Today
  • Gula Melaka Banana Cake 8"
  • Gula Melaka and bananas. Malaysian’s two darlings. Enjoyed together on countless occasions. Let’s add another, more festive way to enjoy these babies~
