Disaster, cracked and expired cake

I have never seen and tasted such a failure. It is not good neither in looking nor tasting. It is expired. When I open the box, I can’t believe I see crack lines on the cake. The crack lines are not only one but they can be easily seen all over the cake. It breaks to pieces when we cut it. It is definitely not as described, does not have a moisture that a mousse cake should have. I could say it is totally dry. The sponge doesn’t even taste like sponge! It made me so disappointed and embarrassed to serve it to my guests so don’t even mention my daugther’s disappointment on her 10th birthday. I would say it is really not worth it to pay RM80 for such cake. It is not even a cake! From the bottom of my heart, this disappointment me a lot. Please don’t sell expired cake. If anyone need pictures or videos as prove, feel free to contact me.

Hi Monica Low, thank you for your informative feedback.

On behalf of all of us at Eat Cake Today, we would like to sincerely apologize for this experience. We fully sympathize with you and can only imagine how disappointed you would've been upon receiving this cake and how it wouldn've negatively affected the entire occasion.

The state of the cake which you received is most definitely below our basic commitment to our customers and for this we are very sorry. Baker suspects that most likely, that the crack in buttercream could be due to temperature changes along the way or due to recipe of the cake sponge. It is normal at times for Swiss meringue buttercream to have small hairline crack due to weather/ humidity. Having said that, baker is still looking into this to try to solve the issue as best they can. Be rest assured though that the cake was freshly made and should not have compromised the taste of the cake.

We will strive to ensure that this kind of thing never happens again by ensuring our baker is better instructed on cake handling. Once again, we are sincerely sorry for this experience.
